FINANCIAL CARE SERVICES NEWSLETTER
Independent aged care, lifestyle and financial advice for seniors
Volume 3 Edition 2 – 25 February 2013

Hello

Alas the time could come when we cannot continue working full time

People who could not resume working at least 15 hours per week because of physical, mental or intellectual incapacity may apply to Centrelink for the Disability Support Pension. Disability Support Pension is paid at the same rates and subject to the same financial means testing as the Age Pension.

Read about the Disability Support Pension at http://www.financialcareservices.com.au/2013/02/08/disability-support-pension/

Older people who are not ready to sever their links with the conventional paid workforce can benefit from the Age Pensioner Work Bonus.

The Age Pensioner Work Bonus allows Age Pensioners to earn $250 per fortnight on average, and not impact their Age Pensions.  Age Pensioner Work Bonus allows Age Pensioners to work a little every fortnight and/or work substantial hours over a short period.

Did you work in Britain?

The United Kingdom State Pension entitlement system changed on 5 April 2010.

If you had not attained the United Kingdom Pensions Age of 65 years for men and 60 years for women by 5 April 2010 then you need only three years worth of National Insurance Contributions to claim a partial State Pension from the United Kingdom.

Each year of National Insurance Contributions generates a State Pension of one-thirtieth of the Full State Pension.  So if you had worked in United Kingdom and paid National Insurance Contributions for three years then you could be entitled to 10% of the Full State Pension.

Retirees who attained the United Kingdom Pension Age before 5 April 2010 stay under the former rules.  The full State Pension entitlement required ten years of National Insurance Contributions for males and eleven years for females.  The maximum basic State Pension was £107.45 per week in February 2013.
